A Meiji world in transition
The Meiji era (1868 to 1912) was a period of rapid modernization, when Western dress, gaslight and new money sat beside old aristocratic rules. Satoko belongs to that new nobility, which is exactly why her life is worth so much to the people who want it ended.

Tennyo Island
Shinpei hides Satoko on Tennyo Island, a red-light district cut off from the capital. There she works as a courtesan while looking for a way home, and the island becomes the stage where her fake marriage starts to feel real.
Themes
Firefly Wedding is about choosing how to live when time is short. It asks whether love that starts as a survival tactic can become the real thing, and what devotion looks like from a man trained only to kill.
